In recent days, 2018 annual Metallurgical Science and Technology Awards of China Iron and Steel Association and The Chinese Society of Metals were released. In total, one special prize, fifteen first prizes, 24 second prizes, and 45 third prizes were selected after appraisal. Result of “stable manufacture technology and application demonstration of GPa-grade steel plates for use by lightweight automobile” accomplished under responsibilities of Baosteel Co., Ltd. gained the only special prize. Other eight results of China Baowu won two first prize, five second prize (including one worker prize), and one third prize. Besides, results claimed in cooperation by China Baowu and Northeastern University won four first prizes and two third prizes.
Two results of China Baowu that won the first prizes were “technologies and their application of smart monitoring for cold-rolling machine chatters and vibration suppression and acceleration”, and “development and application of manufacture technologies and equipments for ultra-thin once cold-rolling high-silicon electrical steel”, five results that won the second prizes were respectively “development and application of key process technologies and equipments for ultra-large-scale blast furnace bell-less top”, “research on GA outer plate surface defects caused by steel-making”, “research, development and application of series of national standards for metal material residual stress tests and regulation methods”, “systematic research on characteristics of Baosteel air pollution and comprehensive treatment technologies and their application ” and “steel-rolling large motor current-collection slip-ring variable-frequency driving online turning technology” (worker prize), and one result that won the third prize was “key technologies and specification expansion of tools and molds for high-grade pipeline tube UOE”.
Result of “stable manufacture technology and application demonstration of GPa-grade steel plates for use by lightweight automobile” mainly refers to cold-rolled and galvanized special ultra-high strength steel plates of tensile strength not less than 1GPa, and they are key materials to cope with competition with lightweight materials that represent development direction of automotive steel. This project had applied for 24 patents (among these, fifteen were authorized patents for invention, and three were practical new-type patents), five standards in automotive industry, and technologies developed by the project had already been diffused to newly-built production lines of Baosteel Co., Ltd.. In recent three years (2015-2017), accumulated sales of GPa-grade automotive sheets reached 415,800tons, and products were widely applied in European, American, Japanese cars and cars of proprietary brands. Successful development of special ultra-high strength steel had driven the advancement of Chinese steel and automobile industry technologies. Meanwhile, it also paved foundation with materials for lightweight automobile in China and made contributions to “weight reduction and energy saving” of automobile. Release of lightweight concept cars in steel signified that steel plants in China were transforming from material suppliers to suppliers of technology solution schemes.
Result of “technologies and their application of smart monitoring for cold-rolling machine chatters and vibration suppression and acceleration” centered around the worldwide universal critical key problem of rolling machine chatters, and had achieved numerous items of innovative results after six years of continuous difficulty tackling and R&D by the project team composed by Baosteel Co., Ltd., University of Science and Technology Beijing and Baosight. Project had in total applied for eighteen patents for invention, seven items had been authorized, and published seven academic papers. Its technological results had already been applied and implemented on three cold-rolling units in Baosteel Co., Ltd. recently, monthly average chatter occurrence times after putting into use decreased by over 50%, monthly average waste steel chopping amount due to chatters decreased by near 90%, average acceleration of rolling machines reached over 4%, and direct economic benefits created each year surpassed 100 million yuan. Technical innovation results achieved by this project were easy for diffusion and transplanting, and this not only had significant engineering values and scientific meanings for high efficient and smart cold-rolling processes for high-strength thin plates, but also provided positive impulse for realizing intelligent manufacture objectives of industry 4.0.
Result of “development and application of manufacture technologies and equipments for ultra-thin once cold-rolling high-silicon electrical steel” coped with the worldwide difficult problem of production of ultra-thin high-silicon electrical steel, utilized multi-disciplinary knowledge in a comprehensive way in R&D and produced commercial, stable, low-cost and environment-friendly once cold-rolling equipments and whole set of manufacture processes. After novelty search by Chinese Academy of Sciences and product quality parameter comparison, technical level of this project was ranked the world’s leading position. This result formed in total fourteen patents for invention, among these, one of international patent for invention, thirteen of domestic patents for invention (among these, seven were authorized), six of practical new-type patents (authorized), 132 items of recognized enterprise secrets and published twenty academic papers. This technology was diffused in application in six sets of Sendzimir units and newly-built 18-hi rolling machine, products had been successfully applied in national key areas of nuclear power generation, new-energy automobile, high-speed trains, unmanned aerial vehicles, etc., pushed forward critical advancements of Chinese steel metallurgical technologies, saved foreign exchange quota for downstream enterprises, and made great contributions to supporting power industry of China by steel industry in updating and scaling up in the direction to high energy-efficiency and low consumption, and to the implementation of national strategies of low-cost development and environment protection.
